The Impact of Monitored Home-Based Exercise Using Wearable Technology Compared to a Standard Cardiac Rehabilitation Program in Patients with Ischemic Heart Disease.
- Main goals: increase the long-term adherence to physical activity in patients who participate in cardiac rehabilitation (CR) via the addition of a home-based digital monitored CR component to the standard CR program on patients with ischemic heart disease (IHD), with the idea of forming new habitual health behaviors and long-term motivation towards physical exercise (PE) habits at home – using FitBit® digital technology, and the Master Caution® system by HealthWatch Technologies.
- Secondary goals: examine the effect of the proposed program on physical activity level as measured by average steps per day and minutes of exercise per week, blood pressure, metabolic parameters (lipid and glycemic profiles), body mass index, waist to hip ratio, and as well as on the quality of life.
Relevance
The results obtained from this proposed study will provide an alternative approach to enhance the long-term therapeutic efficacy of cardiac rehabilitation especially for those patients who are unwilling or unable to participate traditional rehabilitation program.
Method/Design
This study is designed as a randomized controlled trial and will be held at O2 CR, Hadassah medical center at Mt. Scopus Jerusalem. Patients entering outpatient CR are allocated to cardiac tele-rehabilitation with home-based exercise training (intervention group) or center-based CR (control group).
